The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that passengers and motorists abducted along the Omagwa -Obiri-Ikwerre road on Tuesday, December 2, 2023, have been released and united with their families unhurt and no ransom was paid to the abductors.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, also confirmed the rescue of the victims and explained that the incident necessitated the high-alert meeting held with the Area Commander, DPOs and Tactical Commanders. The meeting was necessary to beef up Police presence in the area.
This was contained in a statement signed by command PPRO Grace Iringe-Koko today. Iringe-koko revealed that the Commissioner of Police Rivers State Command, CP Olatunji Disu had held a meeting with Area Commanders and DPOs within the area of jurisdiction as well as tactical team Commanders and instructed them on adequate security measures to put in place to ensure that those abducted on 2/01/2024 regained their freedom. This resulted in a massive deployment of Police around the area of the incident and a thorough combing of the area. These efforts led to the release of the victims. The Police released them to their families after standard post-rescue protocols.
CP Olatunji Disu seized the occasion to remind residents in the state that the Rivers State Police Command, under his watch, will leave no room for crime as he restated his commitment to suffocate criminals out of their comfort zones and bring them to book. He further encouraged residents to remain confident in the Police’s commitment to duty and advised people to desist from paying ransoms to abductors or trying to deal with criminals without reporting to the Police.
