The Chairman INEC Press Corps, Segun Ojumu has called on all electoral Journalist covering INEC to continued input insightful reporting and be dedicated to the truth in the year 2024 stating that working together to set the standard for electoral journalism and ensuring that every citizen is well-informed and every vote is counted and reported with the utmost accuracy will be priority in the new Year.
Segun Ojumu stated this in a statement signed by him in Abuja. He said that “the past year was filled with its unique challenges and triumphs, and through it all, you have excelled, not just as journalists, but as guardians of truth and facilitators of informed engagement. As we bid farewell to 2023, I am filled with gratitude for your hard work, resilience, and the unwavering integrity that defines our corps”.
He said , “the role you play is nothing short of sacred, as information is the bedrock upon which the temple of democracy is built. Your reports give voice to the voiceless, power to the electorate, and accountability to those elected. The trust placed in us to uphold these values is a profound responsibility, and your performance has been exemplary”.
As we look ahead to 2024, the horizon is already dotted with key democratic engagements, especially in Ondo and Edo States, along with various bye-elections. These are not just events; they are opportunities for us to facilitate a robust democratic process and ensure the will of the people is heard and respected. I invite you all to bring forth the same passion, integrity, and excellence as we step into these forthcoming assignments.
May 2024 be a year where we not only meet the expectations set before us but exceed them in service to our nation.
