FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the assault and inhuman treatment done by a lawmaker in his house at Maitama Abuja to a bolt driver. Hon. Alex Ikwechegh who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency Abia State at National Assembly assaulted a bolt driver Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya for no reason, was reported to Maitama Police division. The incident occurred on October 27, 2024, at his residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.
According to Maitama Divisional Headquarters, preliminary investigations indicates that Mr. Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwechegh when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery. During this altercation, Mr. Abuwatseya was reportedly physically assaulted by Hon Alex.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh said that the Command expresses grave concern over Hon. Ikwechegh’s dismissive attitude toward the office of the Inspector General of Police following the incident.
She said after allegedly slapping the victim, he reportedly remarked with contempt, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement. She disclosed that the suspect Hon Alex is currently at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning, noted that the Command is committed to conducting an impartial investigation and ensuring justice in all cases. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken
