Former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has pleaded not guilty to the twenty count charges, brought against him by the EFCC on Friday 19th of January 2024. Twenty count charges which borders on forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, criminal breach of trust, obtaining by pretense, conferring corrupt advantage, amongst others were read to him by the counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo SAN in the open court, before Justice Hamza Mu’azu at the FCT high court.
He pleaded not guilty to all of them. He then, through his counsel, appealed that his bail conditions be maintained and the court granted it, so he was permitted to go home.
Speaking to journalists his lawyer, Mathew Burkaa SAN, disclosed that EFCC has the legal right to amend the charges brought against his client but he has a duty to prove his client innocence.
Hearing was therefore adjourned to February 12th and 13th.
