Over 200 indigent students from the Mumuye ethnic group in Taraba State have received financial assistance from the state’s deputy governor, Aminu Alkali. The aid, targeted at final-year students in tertiary institutions across the country.
A final-year student of Taraba State University, Gibson Dagong, who spoke said the assistance was a welcome relief, especially as the costs associated with his final-year project had become overwhelming.
The President of the Mumuye Youth Cultural and Development Association, Ezekiel Augustine, who also spoke, commended Alkali’s gesture, describing it as first of its kind. He also appealed for the program to be extended to other indigent students across all levels of education.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali encouraged other prominent Mumuye individuals to emulate such acts of kindness and support indigent students.
He noted that students represent the future and that posterity would honour those who extend compassion during these challenging times. Each of the 200 final-year students received financial aid of ₦20,000.
